Those who see clearly choose differently

The space for those who have stopped choosing in a hurry and want to understand what they wear, and why.

There's a kind of person who walks into Barriqule and can't quite explain why they're there.

They only know they didn't want to walk into yet another optician's. That they had already tried three pairs of progressives and none had ever fully convinced them. That when they saw the barrique wood temples they asked where that wood came from — and the answer kept them standing there talking for twenty minutes.

That person is a Barricato. And they probably already were one before they stepped through the door.

Who the Barricati are

It isn't a demographic. It isn't a marketing target. It's a way of being in the world.

The Barricati come back from a trip with a bottle, not a bag. They know the winemaker by name. They know the difference between a Barolo and a Barbaresco — and they also know it isn't always worth explaining at the table.

They choose things that last. A knife, a watch, a pair of glasses. Things with a story inside — or that will build one. They don't follow trends. They wait for them to pass.

Others change. We refine.

Why this blog exists

Barriqule is an optician and artisan eyewear shop in Alba, in the heart of the Langhe. We say so clearly, without embarrassment.

But Barricati is more than a company blog. It's the space where we tell what doesn't fit on a product page.

We talk about vision — literally: how the eyes work, how they get tired, how to protect them intelligently. And in the wider sense: how you look at the world once you stop looking at it in a hurry.

We talk about wine. Not as a marketing gimmick — but because Barriqule glasses are literally born from the wood of the barriques in the wineries on these hills. The oak that aged the Barolo becomes the temple you wear on your face. There's no honest way to tell that story without telling where it comes from.

We talk about design, the land and people. The antiques dealer from Turin who chose the Roemer in Horn. The sommelier who has worn progressive lenses for three years and no longer notices them. The architect who didn't know he had a vision problem until his Barricare visit.

What you'll find here

Practical articles on caring for your eyes, because eye strain isn't inevitable, and badly fitted progressives are not your destiny.

Stories from the workshop: the raw wood, the hinges, the choices nobody else makes.

Insights into the land: Barolo vintages, the wineries, the Langhe as the seasons change.

Portraits: the people who wear Barriqule, in the way they wear them.

Why stay

We don't publish often. We publish when it's worth it.

We don't write for everyone. We write for those who want to understand before choosing, and who, when they choose, choose only once.

If you recognise yourself, you're in the right place.
